Karen Coleman, who has been contributing to good causes in Fontana for almost 40 years, has received the Community Champion Award from the California Park and Recreation Society, Division 11.

Coleman received a plaque for her efforts during a recent Fontana City Council meeting.

Coleman, a member of the Fontana Parks and Community Services Commission, has been a participant with many organizations over the years, including the Family Service Agency of Fontana, Catholic Youth Ministry, Fontana Community Senior Center Advisory Board, and Redwood Elementary Advisory Committee.

Michael Wright, a community services manager with the City of Fontana, said Coleman has been very involved with helping senior citizens, hospice patients, mental health agencies, and school officials.

“I love Fontana,” Coleman told the attendees at the meeting, saying that she has lived here for 57 years. She encouraged residents to get involved in positive endeavors to help their community.
